A lightning surge protector protects your cellular amplifier system in case lightning strikes the donor antenna. A lightning surge protector is highly recommended anytime the system's donor antenna is installed outdoors.

This protector is for 50 Ohm signal booster systems, which typically utilize N-type connectors. This Lightning Surge Protector kit includes a 5 ft RS200 jumper cable with N-Male connectors and a 5 ft copper grounding wire with ring terminals.

Installing a Lightning Surge Protector

Your lightning surge protector should be connected to the ground using solid copper grounding wire. It should be installed outdoors, between the amplifier and the outdoor antenna.

According to the National Electric Code (NEC), a surge protector should be installed as near as possible to the point where the cable enters the house, but not near combustible materials. Since many attic crawl spaces contain combustible material, we suggest installing the surge protector outside the building, near the point of entry. We have included a 5ft jumper cable in case the cable needs to be crimped to accommodate this.

Grounding the Antenna Mast

The NEC also requires grounding the antenna mast. Tall antenna masts are a prime target for lightning strikes because of their height and tendency to accumulate static electricity. This kit includes a grounding cable to ground your lightning surge protector to your antenna mast. You should additionally ground your antenna mast using 8 AWG or higher ground wire.

If your antenna mast is painted, you should make sure that you scrape off any paint before attaching this grounding wire.
