Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital is a 150,000 square foot healthcare facility in Santa Rosa, California serving a large number of patients, medical staff, and visitors every day. Reliable cellular connectivity is essential for healthcare environments where doctors, nurses, and administrative staff rely on mobile devices to coordinate patient care and communicate across departments.
However, large hospitals are notoriously difficult environments for cellular signals. Thick concrete walls, steel infrastructure, and complex building layouts significantly reduce outdoor carrier signals once inside the building.
As a result, Santa Rosa Memorial experienced weak cellular signal, dropped calls, and inconsistent data speeds throughout several areas of the hospital.
These coverage gaps created communication challenges for staff and limited reliable connectivity for patients and visitors relying on their mobile devices while inside the facility. To ensure consistent and reliable service from major carriers, the hospital sought a dedicated in-building wireless solution capable of delivering strong signal throughout the building.

After conducting a detailed site survey, the RSRF team identified significant signal loss throughout interior areas of the building where outdoor cellular signal penetration was weakest.
To address these coverage challenges, RSRF deployed a Comba Active Distributed Antenna System (DAS) designed to distribute carrier signal evenly throughout the hospital.
Active DAS systems are ideal for healthcare facilities because they can efficiently deliver strong, consistent signal across large buildings with complex layouts. The system used a fiber DAS architecture, allowing carrier signal to be transported across the building through fiber before being distributed throughout.
This design enabled the hospital to support both AT&T and Verizon coverage, ensuring reliable connectivity for staff, patients, and visitors.

Following deployment of the Comba Active DAS system, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital saw dramatic improvements in cellular coverage and signal reliability throughout the building.
Previously weak areas and dead zones now receive strong and stable cellular signal, enabling reliable communication across the entire facility. Both AT&T and Verizon users experienced significant improvements in call reliability and data performance, ensuring dependable connectivity.
With reliable indoor cellular coverage in place, hospital staff will now be able to communicate more effectively across departments while patients and visitors benefit from consistent mobile connectivity during their time at the hospital.
The new system provides the hospital with a scalable and future-ready wireless infrastructure capable of supporting the communication needs of a modern healthcare environment.
