1. The Problem

A 97,000 sq ft Chicago hotel needed reliable cellular coverage for guests and operations across multiple floors.

CitizenM Chicago Downtown occupies 97,337 square feet of a high-rise building on North Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago.

Like many high-rise hotels, the building experienced inconsistent indoor cellular coverage due to building materials and limited outdoor signal penetration. This created connectivity challenges for both hotel guests and staff, particularly in interior areas and guest room floors where cellular signal was weak or unreliable.

For modern hotels, reliable mobile connectivity is essential. Guests expect strong cellular service in their rooms, while staff depend on mobile communication to coordinate housekeeping, security, and guest services.

To improve connectivity across the property, the hotel sought an in-building wireless solution capable of delivering consistent multi-carrier coverage throughout the building.

2. The Solution

RSRF deployed a CEL-FI QUATRA hybrid DAS to distribute cellular signal across guest floors and operational areas.

After evaluating the building and signal environment, RSRF designed and installed a CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 hybrid DAS system to enhance indoor cellular coverage.

The deployment included:

  • 1 Network Unit (NU)
  • 1 Fiber Hub
  • 1 Coverage Units (CUs)
  • 65 Dome Antennas

Coverage was implemented across guest floors 6–15 and Level 2 back-of-house areas, ensuring both guest spaces and operational areas received improved cellular service.

3. The Results

The hotel achieved strong multi-carrier coverage across guest floors, improving connectivity for both guests and staff.

Following deployment of the DAS, signal testing showed significant improvements in cellular performance across all covered floors.

Areas that previously experienced poor or inconsistent signal now receive reliable coverage, allowing guests to maintain strong mobile connectivity inside their rooms and throughout the property.

Key outcomes included:

  • Reliable multi-carrier support for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile
