Scotsman Ice had just finished constructing their new, custom-built global headquarters in Vernon Hills, IL when they reached out to us.
Like most new buildings, their new headquarters utilized modern energy-saving windows. Unfortunatlely, while Low-E glass is great at reducing thermal leakage, it also blocks cell signal.
As employees began to move into the new building, they were entering a dead zone. Making and receiving calls was all but impossible.
Scotsman needed a turnkey solution to improve signal for AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, and all other US wireless carriers. The solution also needed to be affordable, deployable within a short timeframe, reliable and low- or no-maintenance.
Waveform's RSRF division moved rapidly: we dispatched our local team to perform an RF site survey. Once on-site, our technicians discovered that the building was between two AT&T cell towers. As a result, AT&T signal was unstable outdoors; devices intermittently transferred from one tower to another.
The new building required powerful hardware and creative thinking. We needed a solution that could take a very weak donor cell signal and amplify it into a signal that would support all users within the 90,000 square-foot building.
In five days, our team had installed two donor antennas outside of the building. We deployed one yagi directional antenna pointed at an AT&T tower and another omni-directional antenna to capture Verizon and all other carriers. These antennas fed 7 SureCall Force5 cellular amplifiers, 48 indoor panel and dome antennas, and plenum coaxial cabling.
When you walk into Scotsman’s headquarters, cell phones on every carrier now receive 4-5 bars in every room.
Calls no longer drop as employees move around the building. The new company building is fit for use as an international headquarters where everybody in the building, on any cell network, knows they have reliable connectivity.
We believe that no one DAS technology is right for every application. There are no silver bullets.
Instead, we carefully select the right technology for the specific signal conditions and requirements of your building.
DAS is the only thing we do.
