1. The Problem

World-class athletics demands world-class coverage.

In July of 2018 a prominent New York professional sports team was having cellular reception issues within their new, state-of-the-art training facility. Though their building already had a distributed antenna system (DAS) installed, they found their Verizon service to be weak and ineffective. They approached RSRF about augmenting their existing system to further boost the signal.

Managing athletes today is a data-intensive science. Coaches, players, and executive staff require constant connectivity to communicate and share data. It was imperative for our client that their facility have as much cellular and mobile data reception as possible.

2. The Solution

Enhancing the existing cellular infrastructure.

Our team began by performing an on-site analysis of the building’s reception. The 105,000 square foot training facility was constructed in a former Navy yard using both traditional building materials, like brick and steel, and heavy modern building materials, like concrete and glass. Additionally, the client’s training spaces housed large athletic equipment that could additionally impede indoor signal.

After discussing the client's budget and priorities, it was clear an ancillary DAS to their existing signal booster was the most appropriate and cost-effective solution. RSRF technicians installed a hybrid (active/passive) SCP-DAS booster and conducted numerous tests before and after installation to verify the effectiveness of the new hardware.

3. The Results

Team data and communication on demand.

Clear communication and quick turnaround characterized this successful booster installation with an end result of 4-5 bars of Verizon and AT&T signals throughout the massive training facility.

Not only did the client’s signal woes disappear once the hybrid DAS booster was installed, RSRF underbid the competition and fixed the issue within the client’s tight budget. The coaches could now get back to coaching, and the players could get back to winning.
