A 797,000 sq ft data center in Washington, D.C. needed reliable indoor cellular coverage across common corridors and operational areas. The facility had no usable service from any carrier. Dense construction materials such as concrete, metal, and windowless interior spaces created complete cellular dead zones. This negatively affected tenant experience and reduced the building’s competitive appeal - when attracting new clients.
The customer initially approached RSRF after receiving a quote for a hybrid system from another vendor. After reviewing the design, RSRF recommended an ADRF Active DAS, which would provide stronger amplification across the large footprint and take advantage of the existing fiber network to support future expansion between building sites.

RSRF performed a site survey and RF assessment that confirmed extremely low indoor signal levels. Data centers of this size often have a large footprint but low capacity requirements, which made it possible to bring in the donor signal off-air and avoid costly carrier signal sources.
RSRF designed and installed an ADRF Active DAS that provided coverage for all major carriers. Fiber-fed remote units delivered the power needed to overcome the concrete structure and metal racking and cabinets installed throughout the facility.
Installation required additional coordination because one of the tenants required escorted access, but the team maintained the project schedule without disrupting operations. Pre and post installation walk tests verified complete coverage and system performance.

The Active DAS delivered immediate improvements in indoor coverage:
Tenants, technicians, and employees now have consistent connectivity for voice, data, MFA tools, and day-to-day coordination.
RSRF completed the project ahead of schedule, within budget, and with better performance than the competing proposal. The customer has since partnered with RSRF on more than 20 additional projects.
