Today, we’re thrilled to announce our new brand: Waveform. We’ll always remember our old name, RepeaterStore, fondly. But we couldn't be more excited for this new chapter in our company’s story.
When we first started helping customers improve their signal back in 2007, things were very different. Flip phones were all the rage, Apple was just about to launch the first iPhone, and there was no such thing as LTE.
Times have certainly changed!
While the name “RepeaterStore” was great for capturing what we did in the early days, our company is very different today from a decade ago. We’ve moved far beyond just selling signal boosters: our product line includes small cells as well as a full range of antennas, couplers and splitters, power meters and other accessories.
And it’s not just new products. In the last 5 years we’ve built up a nationwide team of expert installers with dozens of years of wireless industry expertise. This team of specialists deploys distributed antenna systems for public safety and cellular coverage in buildings ranging from 50,000 to over a million square feet. Getting out and deploying systems in the real world has given us a whole new level of insight into in-building wireless technology.
Finally, our team’s grown a great deal too: we’re now more than 20 people. At one of our company all-hands earlier this year, we decided that it was time for a change; the name RepeaterStore no longer did justice to the company we’ve grown to become.
When picking a new name, we wanted to capture our most important company value: a deep, technical understanding of the wireless industry and the products we sell.
The core of every wireless signal is it’s waveform. Whether it’s FM or AM radio, your home Wifi router, or your phone’s 4G LTE (and soon 5G!) connection, the waveform is the essence of the signal: how its shape changes over time. Modulating digital signals into a waveform is what allows for the transmission of data wirelessly over the air.
When we were deciding between names, Waveform jumped out. It captures how we try to understand our industry--not just through buzzwords and hype, but by digging down into the very physical fundamentals that underlie new technologies.
At the same time, the new brand conveys our respect for the incredible amount of scientific research, technological development, and infrastructure build-out that have made our current wireless networks possible. Today, you can stand on the side of a mountain in the Rockies streaming a video of your new nephew from hundreds of miles away. It’s barely distinguishable from magic. We’re in awe of the wireless transformation, and excited every day to play a small part in making it accessible to more people.
Our name is changing to keep up with the growing industry and the changes in our offerings, but the our core values and mission have not. We’ll maintain the same fanatical devotion to customer service. We’ll still be committed to helping you, our customers, get the very best wireless connectivity possible. And we’ll continue to test products thoroughly, making sure that we understand the devices we sell, and when to recommend them, better than anyone in the industry.
The brand RepeaterStore brought us this far, and we're very grateful to our customers who have made it possible. But we are even more excited for this next evolution of our company, and our plans we have to expand our product offerings beyond just signal boosters. Expect some exciting new product lines and updates to our website in 2020!
