What is the difference between the WilsonPro 1000 and the WilsonPro 1000C?

The Wilson Pro 1000 is a powerful signal booster system designed to improve voice and data on all North American cell networks. It’s one of Wilson Electronic’s most popular units and it’s an excellent choice for most commercial buildings up to 30,000 sq ft.

The Wilson Pro 1000C just edges the regular Pro 1000 out in our ultimate Cell Signal Booster Guide, however, because it incorporates the new WilsonPro Cloud Service. The WilsonPro Cloud allows users to remotely control and monitor the 1000C booster system. It's a cloud-based management service that can be accessed from from a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

The Cloud assists installation of the system by allowing integrators to optimise antenna placement and direction using an inbuilt antenna tuning tool. It can also enable and/or disable specific frequency bands.

Once the 1000C is up and running, a sysadmin can generate and view reports and performance histories. They do not need to be directly onsite, as the amplifier can be reset remotely. The Cloud Service can set up email or SMS alert notifications so the user knows if the amplifier detects oscillation (feedback), if the amplifier is offline, or if it cannot connect to the Cloud. It can also alert if the system does not detect any donor cell signal.

The WilsonPro 1000C booster unit contains a built-in LTE modem that connects to the Cloud. There is also an Ethernet port on the booster for a wired connection.

Do you need remote monitoring?

Remote monitoring is a relatively new feature for cell booster systems. Since the introduction of the SureCall Sentry in 2014, more and more manufacturers are offering remote monitoring for signal booster systems over a certain size. As well as the SureCall Sentry, Cel-Fi by Nextivity offer the WAVE app and HiBoost has the Smart Link Signal Supervisor.

The antenna tuning feature offered by the Cloud Service is particularly helpful during installation. Without it, antenna placement generally needs two people (one to move the antenna, and another to take measurements) and some trial-and-error patience.

However, remote monitoring is really most useful after installation. Performance reports and remote resetting are incredibly helpful if the IT system manager is based off-site, or even if the amplifier unit has been installed in a location that’s inconvenient to access regularly. Performance and signal readouts also make troubleshooting problems with the system much easier.

System Performance for the Pro 1000 and the Pro 1000C

Apart from the Cloud service, the Pro 1000 and the Pro 1000C are very similar in terms of performance once they are set up.

Power

The Pro 1000 and Pro 1000C amplifier units have similar gain:

Max Gain: 72 dB

Maximum Uplink Power: 30 dBm

Maximum Downlink Power: 17 dBm

Antennas

The included antennas in each kit are the same:

The outside donor antenna is a Wilson 314411 wideband yagi antenna with 8-10 dB of gain.

The inside antenna is a Wilson wideband indoor dome antenna (304412), an omni-directional antenna with 5dB of gain.

Cabling

Both units come with low loss 400-type coaxial cable.
