Description

The eero Max 7 is a tri-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh router built for multi-gig internet, high-speed wired networks, and homes with higher devices active at once. It combines Wi-Fi 7 across the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands with two 10 GbE ports, two 2.5 GbE ports, higher-capacity radios on 5 and 6 GHz, and built-in support for Zigbee, Thread, and Matter.

It’s a good fit for internet plans above 5 Gbps, 10 Gigabit equipment such as a NAS or multi-gig switch, or larger homes where greater coverage per unit is useful. It supports internet plans up to 10 Gbps, more than 200 connected devices, and coverage up to 2,500 sq ft per unit.

If your internet plan is 5 Gbps or slower and you don’t need 10 GbE connectivity, consider eero Pro 7. Choose Max 7 when you need faster wired networking, greater coverage per unit, or more total wireless capacity.

Features

  • Tri-band Wi-Fi 7 with 6 GHz: Wi-Fi 7 across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, rated BE20800 with wireless throughput up to 4.3 Gbps. Compatible Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices can use the less crowded 6 GHz band and channels up to 320 MHz.
  • Higher-capacity 5 and 6 GHz radios: The 5 and 6 GHz bands use 4x4 radios for more total wireless capacity when several devices are active at once. Compatible 3x3 and 4x4 devices can also make better use of the additional streams.
  • Multi-Link Operation: Allows compatible Wi-Fi 7 devices to use more than one band at the same time, reducing latency and helping maintain performance when one band becomes congested.
  • Four multi-gig Ethernet ports: Includes two 10 GbE and two 2.5 GbE ports, all auto-sensing. Use them for your modem or ONT, computers, NAS, switches, consoles, or other eero units. Wired throughput is rated up to 9.4 Gbps.
  • Coverage for up to 2,500 sq ft: Actual coverage depends on placement, layout, and building materials. Brick, concrete, multiple floors, and dense walls may require closer node spacing.
  • Support for 200+ devices: Built to handle more than 200 phones, laptops, cameras, smart home devices, and other connected equipment.
  • Built in smart home support: Acts as a Matter controller and a Thread border router, so you can set up and run Matter devices without a separate hub. Also works with Zigbee devices through Alexa.
  • Core features without a subscription: WPA3 encryption, automatic software updates, guest Wi-Fi, device profiles, device pausing, and speed tests are included with the hardware.
  • Simple app management: Set up the network, view connected devices, create profiles, pause access, and manage the system remotely through the eero app.

Optional eero Plus subscription:
Adds ad blocking, content filtering, app blocking, advanced security, VPN, antivirus, and activity history. Subscription pricing and sign-up are available through the eero app.

Supports eero Business: Add business-focused features such as multiple SSIDs, a captive portal, a separate IoT network, and Hotspot Backup through an eero Business subscription.

Compatibility and Setup

Internet Service

Works with any internet service that provides an Ethernet connection, including cable, fiber, DSL, fixed wireless, cellular modems, and 4G or 5G home internet gateways. It’s also compatible with eero Built-in on select Amazon Echo devices.

App and Account

Setup and management require the eero app on iOS, Android, or the Amazon Appstore and a free eero account. There’s no web-based admin interface.

Modem or Gateway Required

eero Max 7 replaces your router, not the modem, ONT, or cellular gateway that provides your internet connection. The gateway eero connects to that equipment over Ethernet.

If your ISP supplied a combined modem and router, eero recommends putting that equipment into bridge mode. For 4G or 5G home internet gateways that don’t offer bridge mode, you may need to use IP passthrough or accept a double NAT setup, depending on the gateway.

To use a full 10 Gbps connection, your modem, ONT, cabling, and connected equipment must also support 10 GbE.

Older eero Units

eero Max 7 works with previous eero generations. Mixing generations can reduce performance across the network, so using the same generation throughout gives the best results.

Smart Home Support

eero Max 7 acts as a Matter controller and Thread border router, with Zigbee support through Alexa. It doesn’t function as a bridge that converts Zigbee devices into Matter devices.

Power and Placement

Each unit uses the included power adapter and is designed for indoor use only. Max 7 is noticeably larger than eero 7 and Pro 7, so check that you have enough shelf or tabletop space.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is eero Max 7 different from eero Pro 7?
eero Max 7 adds two 10 GbE ports, higher-capacity 4x4 radios on the 5 and 6 GHz bands, and coverage up to 2,500 sq ft per unit. It supports internet plans up to 10 Gbps and is designed for higher-capacity wired and wireless networks.

eero Pro 7 provides the same tri-band Wi-Fi 7 experience and 6 GHz support, but with two 5 GbE ports and 2x2 radios on every band.

What does the 4.3 Gbps wireless figure mean?
eero measured the 4.3 Gbps figure between two Max 7 units using iPerf3 in a controlled router-to-router test. It represents the platform’s maximum wireless capability, not the speed a single phone or laptop should be expected to receive.

Which pack size do I need?
eero rates each unit for up to 2,500 sq ft, but around 1,900 sq ft is more realistic in a typical drywall home. Brick, concrete, multiple floors, and dense walls may require closer spacing.

Do I need to run Ethernet between the units?
No. Max 7 can connect its mesh units wirelessly, and the additional 6 GHz band gives them more room to communicate. Ethernet still provides the most consistent performance.

Does eero Max 7 support two internet connections?
Not as a conventional wired dual-WAN router. One Ethernet port connects to your modem or gateway, while the remaining ports operate as LAN. For internet plans above 2.5 Gbps, connect your modem or ONT to one of the 10 GbE ports.

eero Plus can use a compatible Wi-Fi network or hotspot for Internet Backup. This is different from connecting two wired internet services directly to the router.

Can I add eero Max 7 to my existing eero network?
Yes. eero Max 7 works with previous eero generations. Mixing generations can reduce network performance, so using the same generation throughout generally gives the best results.

Do I need an eero Plus subscription?
No. WPA3, automatic updates, guest Wi-Fi, device profiles, device pausing, and speed tests are included. eero Plus adds ad blocking, content filtering, app blocking, advanced threat protection, VPN, antivirus, and activity history. Subscription pricing and sign-up are available through the eero app.

Will eero Max 7 work with 5G home internet?
Yes, as long as the 5G gateway has an Ethernet port. Use bridge mode or IP passthrough when available. Otherwise, the network may operate with double NAT.
