Description
The eero 7 is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh router built for fast, reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home. It combines Wi-Fi 7 across the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with two 2.5 GbE ports, mesh expansion, and built-in smart home support for Zigbee, Thread, and Matter.
It’s a good fit if you’re replacing your ISP router’s Wi-Fi, upgrading an older mesh system, or adding coverage to rooms where your current network struggles. It supports internet plans up to 2.5 Gbps and more than 120 connected devices.
If you instead need the 6 GHz band, 320 MHz channels, or more capacity for heavy simultaneous use, consider eero Pro 7. Its two 5 GbE ports support internet plans up to 5 Gbps, while the eero 7’s 2.5 GbE ports limit the speed of the wired connection from your modem or gateway. For internet plans above 5 Gbps, consider eero Max 7.

- Multi-Link Operation: Allows compatible Wi-Fi 7 devices to use 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz at the same time, reducing latency and helping maintain performance when one band becomes congested.
- Two 2.5 GbE ports: One port connects the eero to your modem, ONT, or internet gateway. The remaining port provides a fast wired connection for a computer, console, NAS, switch, or another eero. The ports are auto-sensing, so either physical port can be used for the internet connection.
- Coverage for up to 2,000 sq ft: Each unit covers up to 2,000 sq ft, depending on placement, layout, and building materials. You can add more units if you need to extend coverage.
- Support for 120+ devices: Built to keep more than 120 phones, laptops, smart home devices, cameras, and other connected devices online.
- Built-in smart home support: Acts as a Matter controller and a Thread border router, so you can set up and run Matter devices without a separate hub. Also works with Zigbee devices through Alexa.
- Core features without a subscription: WPA3 encryption, automatic software updates, guest Wi-Fi, device profiles, device pausing, and speed tests are included with the hardware.

Compatibility and Setup
Internet Service
Works with any internet service that provides an Ethernet connection, including cable, fiber, DSL, fixed wireless, cellular modems, and 4G or 5G home internet gateways. It’s also compatible with eero Built-in on select Amazon Echo devices.
App and Account
Setup and management require the eero app on iOS, Android, or the Amazon Appstore and a free eero account. There’s no web-based admin interface.
Modem or Gateway Required
eero 7 replaces your router, not the modem, ONT, or cellular gateway that provides your internet connection. The gateway eero connects to that equipment over Ethernet.
If your ISP supplied a combined modem and router, eero recommends putting that equipment into bridge mode. For 4G or 5G home internet gateways that don’t offer bridge mode, you may need to use IP passthrough or accept a double NAT setup, depending on the gateway.
Older eero Units
eero 7 works with previous eero generations. Mixing generations can reduce performance across the network, so using the same generation throughout gives the best results.
Smart Home Support
eero Pro 7 acts as a Matter controller and Thread border router, with Zigbee support through Alexa. It doesn’t function as a bridge that converts Zigbee devices into Matter devices.
Power and Placement
Each unit uses the included 15W USB-C power adapter and is designed for indoor use only. If you need Ethernet data and power over one cable, consider eero PoE 7 instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is eero 7 really Wi-Fi 7 if it doesn’t have 6 GHz?
Yes. It supports Wi-Fi 7 features including Multi-Link Operation, 240 MHz channels, and OFDMA on 2.4 and 5 GHz. It doesn’t include a 6 GHz radio, so you don’t get the additional spectrum or 320 MHz channels available on 6 GHz. If those are important to you, consider eero Pro 7 instead.
Which pack size do I need?
eero rates each unit for up to 2,000 sq ft, but that figure assumes favourable placement and construction. For a typical drywall home, plan around 1,500 sq ft per unit. Brick, concrete, multiple floors, and dense walls may require closer spacing.
Mesh units don’t need to sit at the edge of each other’s coverage. Some overlap helps maintain a stronger backhaul connection between nodes. Add units based on where coverage or performance drops, rather than square footage alone.
Do I need to run Ethernet between the units?
No, they’ll connect wirelessly. But Ethernet backhaul usually provides better and more consistent performance. eero 7 is dual-band, so wireless communication between units shares the same 2.4 and 5 GHz airtime used by your devices. If Ethernet isn’t practical and you need several wireless nodes, eero Pro 7 is better suited because it can also use the 6 GHz band.
Does eero 7 support two internet connections?
Not through its two Ethernet ports in a conventional dual-WAN configuration. One port on the gateway eero connects to your primary modem, ONT, or internet gateway.
eero Plus offers Internet Backup using a compatible Wi-Fi hotspot or backup network, but that’s different from connecting two wired WAN services directly to the router.
Do I need an eero Plus subscription?
WPA3, automatic updates, guest Wi-Fi, device profiles, pausing, and speed tests are included.
eero Plus adds ad blocking, content filtering, app blocking, advanced threat protection, VPN, antivirus, and activity history. In the US, it currently costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year and can be added through the eero app.
Will eero 7 work with 5G home internet?
Yes, provided the 5G gateway has an Ethernet port. Connect the gateway eero to a LAN port on your carrier gateway.
For the cleanest network setup, use bridge mode or IP passthrough when the carrier gateway supports it. If neither is available, eero can still work behind the carrier gateway, but the network may operate with double NAT.
